Stainless steel shows every fingerprint and streak, which makes it look great when it's clean and frustrating when it's not. The technique matters as much as the product.
Stainless steel has a visible grain — fine lines running in one direction. Wiping with the grain, rather than across it, helps a cloth glide cleanly and avoids leaving new streak marks in the finish.
Paper towels can leave lint and small fibers behind on stainless surfaces. A microfiber cloth picks up fingerprints and residue more effectively and leaves a cleaner finish.
A mild soap-and-water pass first removes grease and grime, since polish alone can just spread dirt around. A separate polishing step afterward — with a small amount of a stainless-specific product or a few drops of oil on a dry cloth — restores shine without residue.
Steel wool, abrasive scrub pads, and bleach-based cleaners can scratch or discolor stainless steel permanently. Soft cloths and non-abrasive cleaners protect the finish over the long run.
Streak-free stainless steel is part of our standard recurring clean.
