Even a home that looks clean at a walkthrough often needs a deeper pass before it's truly ready for your belongings. It's much easier to clean an empty space than one filled with boxes and furniture.
Kitchen and bathrooms first
These rooms benefit most from a clean start — wipe down cabinet interiors before storing dishes and food, and clean bathroom fixtures and floors before they're in daily use. It's far easier to do this before the space fills up.
Check for what the previous occupant left behind
Closets, cabinets, and under-sink areas sometimes still hold dust, hair, or leftover items. A quick check-and-wipe of these spaces before you unpack means everything you put away goes into a genuinely clean space.
Floors before furniture
Vacuuming and mopping every room while it's still empty reaches corners and edges that become inaccessible once furniture is in place. This is one of the biggest advantages of cleaning before move-in day rather than after.
